Lyn Gardner has made a powerful case for freelance artists in The Stage. She argues that millions of pounds are currently being invested in the bricks and mortar of theatre buildings and administration, often at the expense of those impoverished artists without whom there would be no theatre, no opera, no ballet, no comedy evenings, no poetry slams, no readings, no online live streamings, no contemporary dance, no circus.
At this time of severe financial hardship for so many in the performing arts community, her article bears close scrutiny and attention.
